How will this initiative benefit you? These upgraded measures are important as protective security is strengthened around Southern Cross Station. The measures will provide protection for commuters, visitors, pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and customers of nearby businesses. When will the works take place? Security upgrades are continuing at several locations around Southern Cross Station. Works commenced on Monday 28 September and will run for approximately 10 weeks. Whenever possible, works are being scheduled to minimise disruption. Ongoing works at Southern Cross Station Additional security measures will be installed at the station entrance on Collins Street later this year. As we face constantly changing circumstances related to COVID-19, the City of Melbourne is continuing to monitor and adhere to protective health requirements. These works are permitted by the Victorian Government and contractors have a High Risk CovidSafe Plan to operate safely. At the moment, there is no impact on the delivery of these works. City of Melbourne will be installing steel bollards and removing the existing concrete blocks. There will be some construction noise associated with these works. Wherever possible, works are being scheduled to minimise disruption. Security upgrades will also be installed on Collins Street, outside Southern Cross Station, in the coming months. How will these works impact me? The majority of works will take place between 7am and 5pm between Monday and Friday. Some work at night time and weekends will also be required. Impacts will include: • Temporary closures of pedestrian crossings. • Partial road closures on Collins and Spencer streets. • Reduced taxi rank capacity outside the station. • Work areas will be fenced off and signs will direct pedestrians, cyclists and motorists to move safely Once completed, these works will result in changes to the Collins Street and Spencer Street intersection.
